Author- Kathy Hepinstall
Civil War Era, but historical fiction that explores socially accepted practices of the time. Like that a woman who defies her husband is obviously insane and must be sent to an asylum for "healing." She meets fellow inmate and love interest who is fighting his own demons from the war. Place the asylum on an island, add a psychiatrist with his own flaws, a few colorful inmates and you have a story with suspense and interest.
Just the story would be good enough for 4+ stars, but this author has a gift. She combines words to create a picture, a feeling, an impression. Kathy Hepinstall, thank you for this book.
If you're looking for happy endings, this one isn't for you. But if you like historical fiction and you want to feel the story, read this book.
