Mystery; strength of love, and commitment.

Have you ever savored an exceptional chocolate? In that moment it is your total experience, you know you'll pop a Hershey's kiss tomorrow, but this has set the standard for chocolate.  The Last Thing He Told Me sets the standard for what mysteries should be, you'll go back to reading other mysteries but you will remember this one.

Hannah's husband of one year leaves her a note saying, "protect her," then vanishes. "Her" is Bailey, a 16 year old step daughter. The plot of course thickens. Hannah and Bailey set out to discover what is behind the disappearance, unweaving a mystery neither knew.  The main characters are well developed, those on the edges are a little vague and unsettling, the right amount to create a suspenseful plot.  The plot evolves one step in front of unknown danger as Hannah determines who she can trust.

Like that exceptional chocolate, you'll want to devour this in one sitting so don't start it unless you have the time to set sleep, work, and family aside.

Time "travel," unusual romance

Tom Hazard has been alive for centuries, but is forced to move every eight years in order to keep the secret.  His latest relocation is as a high school history teacher in the 21st century, what better profession for a man who has lived history and met many of the greats.  Through Hazard's memories we also learn about his past life and loves, met the characters who helped and haunt him.

The story is quirky, engaging, and somehow the author makes it feel real.  Great book to pick up if you're ready for something a little different.

Summer Read. Mystery.

What better setting for a summer read than summer camp!  In The Last Time I Lied, there are two plots to be solved-- one from teenage camper Emma, the other when Emma returns 12 years later as an art instructor counselor to put her past to rest.  Of course nothing is put to rest, there would be no suspense that way!  The story is engaging with a few plot twists, some predictable but others that are not.  The characters come to life, you can visualize the teenage girls... I think I know a couple of them, different names of course!  It's a fun and lightly  suspenseful book to read.  Perfect for summer.

Summer Read.  Independent female, love, forgiveness, family, a little romance.

A summer read is to entertain you. It keeps your interest even when sun, sand, water, and outdoor fun is calling. This book does that. A contemporary story set in a fire house, with a female fire fighter who is physically tough but emotionally has vulnerable spots-- even if she has difficulty accepting them. Read this one for the fun dialogue-- especially the conversations she has with herself, a story that holds your interest, and a satisfying ending.

I'm new to this author, but Amazon describes her as writing "laugh-and-cry books about how life knocks us down—and how we get back up."  That would describe The Things You Save in a Fire.
